Our library learning icentre lends itself to learning even at lunchtime!

Many students choose to come to the library
during their lunchtime.
They may choose from a wide range of activities
during their visit.
We have student helpers to assist our students and
keep our library organised. We really value their help.
See what these students were up to last

Our students were having fun with the colAR app discovering what augmented reality is and does.

What is Augmented Reality?

Augmented reality is changing the way we view the world -- or at least the way its users see the world. Augmented reality (AR) is a live, direct or indirect, view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented by computer-generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics or GPS data.

As a result, the technology functions by enhancing one’s current perception of reality.

With the help of advanced AR technology (e.g. adding computer vision and object recognition) the information about the surrounding real world of the user becomes interactive and digitally manipulable.

Artificial information about the environment and its objects can be overlaid on the real world.
Adapted from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Augmented_reality
Our students found out that it really is as easy as 1 2 3

Years One & Two have been very busy learning.

The students in Year One have been working really well on their Reading Eggs program.
Last week they viewed Story 1: Details, Details (SWF 4Mb)
Hector and his friends learn about their personal information—what it is, who should it be shared with and how can it be used.
Today they also viewed Story 2 on Hector's World called "Welcome to the Carnival."
Welcome to the Carnival (SWF 7.3Mb)
Hector and his friends visit the Silicon Deep carnival and learn how protect themselves and their personal information.

Meet Hector's Friends
Students then explored the Build Your Wildself site and created an avatar.
They saved a copy of the avatar into their U drive and then some of the students started creating a wild avatar.

The students in 2E have been working really steadily on their Reading Eggs program.
They can now independently explore and create in different software programs and on many sites.
Students were able to choose which site to explore after finishing their reading work today.
Some students went to Story Monster, others enjoyed exploring the fun places such as music cafe, the shop and the playground in reading eggs, whilst others were super keen to apply themselves in various cool maths online games.
