DOUBLE UP borrowing for the holidays

If you would like to enjoy DOUBLE UP borrowing
you need to have returned all your books, i.e., have no overdues.

All students should bring their books and library bags
for borrowing this week even if they may miss their lessons
due to extra special events.
We will organise their borrowing so they don't miss out.

2010 Tooth Tally Fun has begun!! The 2010 description has been revealed.

Students listened to this description and then drew what they though this years' fairy would look like from that description.

The Tooth Fairy likes to wear green from the very top of her head to the very tips of her toes. It is green like growing grass.

Sometimes, instead of her beautiful sparkly gown, she wears trousers so that she can fly from house to house in the twinkling of an eye.

As children dream, they may hear the tiny sound of the tinkling bell on the tip of her cap as she quietly visits them.

Share our drawings of the 2010 tooth fairy from 1-2 C.

LIBRARY NEWS

Welcome to another fine year of learning in 2010! Our library is open Monday – Friday this year from 8.30 am parents are very welcome to come to the library with their children and read a story. This is a lovely, relaxing way to start the day.
LIBRARY LESSONS:

Mon     Tues     Wed   Thurs    Fri

3E         6M        KG

3H         6I         KS       4C         5A

2CK     K/1O    1M     4/5TC  1/2C

Students who can read well, have a chance to do well in all other areas they explore. They are not held back and frustrated because they can’t understand and interpret information.

Parents play a vital role in the education of their child. At Sandy Beach Public School (SBPS), we believe that a strong and supportive partnership between home and school improves children’s learning capabilities.

As parents/carers you can help them in many ways.

1.Read to them for fun – enjoy. Even just 10 minutes per school day = 50 minutes per week = 200 minutes per month = 2400 minutes per year. See it will add up!!!!!!! Does reading a bedtime story to your children every night really make that much difference?

YOU BET IT DOES! The research proves it!

This habit should start in a child’s first year of life, and continue throughout childhood. Even some children in Years 4, 5 & 6 enjoy it. Perhaps by then they will be the ones reading to their parents.

2. Encourage your children to read. 10 minutes per day = 2400 minutes per year, BUT 30 minutes per day = 7200 minutes per year!!! Imagine how well they would be reading by the end of the year!

3. Borrow regularly from libraries, including our school library.

4. Be involved in their schooling. Research shows that children, whose parents/carers are part of the team teaching and guiding them, do much better at school than others.

HELPERS
We value our wonderful helpers and would encourage more helpers to join the ranks because it helps free us to offer more services to the students and staff.

If you can help with library duties (either at home or at school) please fill out the form at the end of this newsletter and ask your child to return it to the library.
