Augmented reality is changing the way we view the world -- or at least the way its users see the world.
Augmented reality (AR) is a live, direct or indirect, view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented by computer-generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics or GPS data.
As a result, the technology functions by enhancing one’s current perception of reality.
With the help of advanced AR technology (e.g. adding computer vision and object recognition) the information about the surrounding real world of the user becomes interactive and digitally manipulable.
Artificial information about the environment and its objects can be overlaid on the real world.

Our students found out that it really is as easy as 1 2 3

The students in Year One have been working really well on their Reading Eggs program. Last week they viewed Story 1: Details, Details (SWF 4Mb)
Hector and his friends learn about their personal information—what it is, who should it be shared with and how can it be used.
They saved a copy of the avatar into their U drive and then some of the students started creating a wild avatar.

The students in 2E have been working really steadily on their Reading Eggs program.
They can now independently explore and create in different software programs and on many sites.
Students were able to choose which site to explore after finishing their reading work today.
Some students went to Story Monster, others enjoyed exploring the fun places such as music cafe, the shop and the playground in reading eggs, whilst others were super keen to apply themselves in various cool maths online games.

We did a search for ocean and we found a variety of resources sorted by authors:
More of the year 4CN students took their partner's photo in their favourite learning spaces in our school today. As usual there is a range from their own classroom, our library icentre, our learning technologies icentre and in our beautiful gardens. These are the photos the students took of each other with the iPad::
Term 2 Week 3 Our lesson in the Learning Technology iCentre
Year 4 are preparing to complete a co-operative study on one part of our Solar System.
To commence Year 4H students logged on to Reading Eggs and found a book in the e-library that was about Space. They read the book and then answered the quiz, to determine how well they understood what they had just read.
Students then opened the assignment from the Collaboration drive and saved a copy of the assignment into their U drive. Next, they read through the assignment and highlighted the key words to define what was being asked of them.
Studnets then added their names to the document and printed it. Once they collected their sheets they needed to organise them so the first one was on top and then staple it in the top left corner. This proved most tricky for some students!!
To finalise students highlighted their names, so the sheets would be easier to find each week as they use the assignment outline to guide their learning. Last step required them to place their document in the pile so they would be easy to find next week.
Asking the students to highlight key words allowed me to assess the student's ability to locate important information, as well as giving them a chance to carefully read what was being asked of them before diving in.
Click on the links below to read what our students are looking forward to on their padlet.
A padlet is on online space where students can share their ideas.
It has been set up so the link is not discoverable on google, so it is a safe tool for our students to use.
It is also set so I have to approve any comments before they can be read on the screen.
You will also find the "WONDER of the day"on the right hand side of the page. The wonders are a great way to learn about all sorts of interesting topics...... Give the brain a work out during your holidays!! What do you wonder about? Click on the link to discover many things to wonder about!
Years 4, 5 and 6 students are working during this term on creating various on-line posters. Students are creating posters to share their experience at Lake Ainsworth, game reviews, persuasive book posters or their "favourite quick read" book trailers.
They are using glogster.edu to create their on-line posters (glogs) Our school has a membership so students are signed up under the teacher account. Below is a glog I produced to show the students. I will share their glogs when they are finished.
Year one and two are enjoying studying many different mini beasts this term. The students have located many great non-fiction books in our library and enjoyed sharing what they discovered. They complied their very own "bug book" to learn from as they continue exploring the mini beast world. Some of the students were keen to take many of the books they found back for reading in their classrooms. This week in library they are viewing three multi-modal online stories about caterpillars. Students will be taught how to navigate the websites to manage the different modes of delivery.
This year we
will be participating in the Woolworths Earn & Learn program again. Through this
program we will be able to get new educational resources for our school – and
all we need you to do is IF you shop for your groceries at Woolworths please accept the stickers and send them inwith your children to their class teacher.
From Monday 8th April
to Sunday 9th June, we are collecting Woolworths Earn & Learn
Points. You will get one Woolworths Earn & Learn Point for every $10
spent (excluding liquor, tobacco and gift cards). Place the Woolworths Earn
& Learn Points onto a Woolworths Earn & Learn Points Sheet and when it’s
complete, the Points Sheet can be sent into school to your child's teacher. Please invite any grandparents, friends, aunties to collect their stickers for you too (if they don't have primary students themselves.)
At the end
of the promotion, we’ll be able to get some great new equipment. The range is
extensive and offers lots of items ideal for our students. See what we earned last year:
Sandy Beach Public School students will be celebrating Harmony Day this week.
