BookFair Program and Happenings
The Scholastic truck will arrive on Thursday 17 May so we can set up. This year we will hold the Book Fair in the new BER library. Come along and check it out if you have not yet had a chance! The Book Character Parade and Book Fair sale day will be held on Friday 25 May.The Book Fair will be open from 8am-6pm. We look forward to seeing lots of parents and friends join us on this day for a huge celebration of “reading.” Students can come to school dressed up as any one of their favourite book characters. We encourage, where possible, students to bring along a book that displays their character for sharing with visitors and their classmates. It can be a book from home, the public library, Grandma’s, Pop's, or from our library...
Parents and family are welcome to join their children for "READ@recess" and then a brief book sharing time in the classroom.
The Book Character Parade will commence at 12pm. Parents and friends are also welcome to join their children for lunch. Our canteen will be catering for this event.
After each class presents their book characters in the parade we will do 1 x lucky draw for a “poster pick” from the Bookfair = 14 lucky winners!!

The competition proved how clever many of our students are and provided many great presentations.
This year's competition will be announced very soon.
The RESULT was many more new books were provided for you all to enjoy!

It is up to you to suggest what you would like to be added to your library.
Make sure you make plenty of recommendations.
There will be a box for each stage to add their suggestions.
I will read them ALL as this helps me to know what to select from our commission.
I will also draw 2 suggestions from each stage and the winners will win a $10 book voucher each to spend at the bookfair.
Providing students with a bookfair at school is a great way to provide an authentic learning and shopping experience. I can discover what books are exciting for your children to read and the book character parade and bookfair provide a great way to highlight and celebrate the joy of reading for all of our community!

All About Animals- Have fun exploring!!
from All About Animals can be explored in three ways: using menus to search for information, using the index and using key words.
The database is available in two versions: with sound support on the menus and simple description pages or without sound.

In the library this year we have been ensuring that the students get time to "slow down and read in peace." So often life is hectic that it is vital to take the time to slow down.

We have been using the SQUIRT method for classes from Year 1-6. The kids respond happily. They love not being interrupted.
Students have been doing a great job of borrowing all kinds of books from many different authors. This week we are going to explore some of their favourite authors.

Here is a poll for the students to take on their favourite authors.
The poll is made in BooRoo- a free, very easy to use poll, survey and quiz creator.
Some of these authors and illustrators we have in our library, but some we don't. If you feel that you would like to recommend we purchase new books please feel welcome to make a suggestion by jotting down the Title, Author and Publisher and handing it in to the library.

The Slow Reading Movement is part of the “slow movement” which aims to decrease the pace of life and promote greater comprehension. The Slow Reading Movement believes that we are losing the ability to read deeply. We tend to skim and browse more and more these days. If interested you can join in the International Day of Slowness.

In the library we have recently introduced this wonderful initiative-We Give Books as part of our Global Studies. The digital stories are so easy to access and read as a class using our data projector, in groups or as individuals on our netbooks. Some of our classes have already started implementing the program in their classrooms and as part of their suggested homework.

Everytime a registered user reads a free online digital book the Pearson Foundation donated a book. View a video that outlines the project.

Teachers and Librarians: Ideas to make We Give Books -Read a Book Give a Book successfully work in your classroom.
There are three classifications of books to choose from: New Releases, Popular and Classics. When you sign up the books that your children read are stored for easy reviewing in your library.
