Announcing the 2011 SBPS Bookfair!!!
Our annual Book Fair is coming up on Thursday 26th May.This is a great way to provide more stimulating books for your children to read and a great way to highlight and celebrate the joy of reading!
This year the theme is:
Lights, Camera, BOOKFAIR!
The Scholastic truck will arrive on Friday 20th May so we can set up. This year we will hold the Book Fair in the new BER library. Come along and check it out!
The Book Character Parade and Book Fair sale day will be held on Thursday 26th May.
The Book Fair will be open from 8am-6pm.
We look forward to seeing lots of parents and friends join us on this day for a huge celebration of “reading.” Students can come to school dressed up as any one of their favourite book characters.
We encourage, where possible, students to bring along a book that displays their character for sharing with visitors and their classmates. It can be a book from home, the public library, Grandma’s or our library...
Parents and family are welcome to join their children for recess and then a brief book sharing time in the classroom.
The Book Character Parade will commence at 12.15. Parents and friends are also welcome to join their children for lunch. Our canteen will be catering for this event.
After each class presents their book characters in the parade we will do 1 x lucky draw for a “poster pick” from the Bookfair = 13 lucky winners!!

2011 Tooth Tally is up and counting...
Tooth Tally Project The Tooth Tally Project gives teachers a way to integrate an important event in the life of a child - losing a tooth - with reading, maths, writing, social studies and technology.
Using "lost tooth" data collected in the classroom, students will practice counting skills and collecting data. They will learn to make and interpret graphs, use descriptive text, develop mapping skills and collaborate internationally with their peers using the Internet.
It's a wonderful opportunity for children to realise that in spite of many differences children all around the world have many similarities, too.
Check out where all the kids and the classes participating are from on the world map
Our baby teeth came out on PhotoPeach:
Here is the 2011 Tooth Fairy's description:
The Tooth Fairy has long black hair that blows in the wind. She is smiling. She wears a long, pink dress with yellow stars on it and green slippers. She carries a black purse to keep the teeth in. She has two wings that look like butterfly wings. They are yellow, pink and green. Her wand has a green handle and a star at the end. It sparkles to help her see in the dark.
I will share our kids drawings in the next post.

Year 4 helped our new kindy's with their first class visit to the library.
Year 4 students were so responsible and helpful with our new kindergarten kids. I was so proud of them. They were kind and caring.
Year 4 students showed the new kindy's all around the library and pointed out where they could find all the important things like picture books, non-fiction books, paper, scissors, pencils, erasers, sharpeners, computers,cushions.....
They also showed them the blocks and the phones which are available to play with during 2nd half of lunch-times. Year 4 students helped the little ones choose a book to suit, often read some or all of the book to them and then helped them to the check out area. Their help was invaluable.
